Charminar, meaning "Four Towers" is considered to be one of the most important monuments in Hyderabad. This monument was built to commemorate the eradication of the plague in 1591. It is popular because of its four characteristic minarets (possibly depicting the first four khalifs of Islam), as it was build by the emperor Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah. The Charminar looks beautiful in the nights when it is illuminated, and it its exquisite carvings and moldings make it a must-see attraction for both locals and vistors alike.

Falaknuma Palace is a sight to behold. This Italian-designed architectural beauty features Louis XIV-style decor, Italian marble staircases and ornate fountains.

Golkonda fort, only 10 kilometres west of Hyderabad city, is a must-see. The majesty and grandeur of the 800-year-old ruins and the architectural glory of those structures, which have survived the ravage of time and rampage by Mughal vandals, is breathtaking. Legend has it that Golkonda was the centre of a flourishing trade in diamonds and that the world-famous Kohinoor diamond came from this market. The rugged and time-ravaged ruins throw up fleeting evidence of a golden age with Golkonda as its essence.

A man-made lake, Hussain Sagar is home to the Tank Bund, which boasts scenic gardens and statues of famous personalities. Boating and water sports are also very popular.
